not that long ago; two young girls meet in Mrs. Wolf's Science Class in sixth grade. Each had written a story. The whole class voted on which story should represent the class. Andrea's story and my story tied. Both of us being rather shy had to read our stories in front of the entire class. Andrea's story won.
Later on as life kept crossing our paths we became friends. She tried to teach me how to be less of a girly girl, how to ride a skateboard; which I failed miserably at. She helped me sneak out of the house quite a few times in high school.
After high school was over we went our separate ways; every once in a while we would run into each other and it would be as if we had never been apart. We both went to the same college and graduated; just at staggered times.
I started to pursue my dream of writing and had a few children's book ideas. I knew I needed an illustrator in order for my dream of ever becoming published to come true; and I thought of Andrea.
In high school she was always the person I had turned to when I needed help with an art project. She had a couple of books full of cartoons that our whole class read and were always looking forward to reading. I had also seen that she had graduated with her degree in art. So I called her up; emailed her the story and the next day she had drawn sketches inspired by the story that I had written.
And now, almost exactly ten years after high school, we have a Children's Book! Polarbe's Hibernation started out as a dream, brought two friends back together and is now bringing two friends back to the town where it all started; Warrensburg Missouri. Andrea and I are going to have our first book signing at Hastings on January, Saturday the 10th, 2015 from 11:00-3:00 and we would like to invite all of you to come and help us celebrate our friendship, and our children's book, in the town that started it all. We hope that we will see you in Warrensburg.
