The beginning of the week is the hardest for everyone; even writers. It is hard to get back to work after the distractions of family and friends. So I thought we could all use a little Inspiration after the holiday weekend. My Inspiration today is Lindsey Stirling and her album: Shatter Me (in stores now).
This image is from a Lindsey Stirling video. I know that it is not the most popular image, nor can you really tell who it is. I choose this image because it tells something about me; as well as her. Lindsey Stirling's Music Inspires me, as fairytales inspire me. Every time that I listen to her music, I close my eyes, and a calm comes over me. During this calm I am the inspired. I see Images while listening to her songs, little animated stories come to life with the rise and fall of her violin. It is a lot like Disney's Fantasia; except with more fairytale characters and mini stories; not just playful images.
I know that it can be hard at times to be inspired as a writer; or to write when you are not really inspired. My advice to other writers out there; find your calm. It might be listening to a new soundtrack that takes your mind to new places; or it might be listening to a soundtrack of a movie you've heard a thousand times because your child will only watch a certain movie over and over.
Then again it might not involve music at all. It might be as simple as walking to the mailbox while large pieces of pollen fall all around Me (obviously this will not be so enjoyable if you are allergic to pollen); revealing a fairytale realm existed within my world every single day; I just had to open my eyes and see it there. A second latter I turned around and saw a neighbor who reminded me of one of the seven dwarfs. That day I realized that Fairy tales are everywhere I look; if I am looking.
Inspiration is everywhere if you only choose to seek it out. I know this seems too easy, but writing should be easy. At least it has been ever since I found subjects and characters that I absolutely love. Once I found my voice and what I enjoy writing; everything, including the research becomes enjoyable.
Even those moments of writers block become a pleasant part of writing. I can find fulfillment in all of it is because I love it all. Those little moments when I connect a storyline with another one; and realize that I had what I needed the whole time. Yes they come after a time of writers block; but without both the block and realizations I know my writing would not be as good.
All writing comes down to; is writing what you love and always searching (and finding) your inspiration. Once you have both you will be unstoppable as a writer.
