Thought I would share some news, and a little bit of my process, for those who are looking forward to my next book.
I am working on my next fairy tale novella. It is taken from Hans Christian Anderson's version of the Snow Queen, not Disney's Frozen. So why do I have the video above? Because it has awaken my inspiration for this story.
Here is a little background... when Disney first announced that they were going to do an animated story based off Hans Christian Anderson's Snow Queen i was ecstatic... until their direction started to become more clear. Before the movie came out I started writing my own version. After its success I put my story aside, thinking no one would want to read my version after the success of Frozen which does not have much that resembles my beloved authors version.
So I set it aside. Not really thinking about it... until I saw this YouTube video... and my story came back to the front of my mind. Here is a hint... my story is not actually going to be about the Snow Queen... but her daughter(s). The one that is only mentioned vaguely in one of the versions of the snow queen. (Refresher: the snow queen brings the boy to marry her daughter in one of the versions. only one mention... but it always stuck with me.)
I love the idea that one of the daughters gets sent away because the other got kidnapped for her magical powers. Of course I am only using this as inspiration for my story. However I can not get the concept out of my head.
So here is a look into my process. Normally I will get an idea... write as much as I can on the story... then put it in a drawer, until the inspiration or new ideas start formulating a complete story. Perhaps this is why i have three drawers full of unfiished projects... including the much awaited Mythology Series, A High School Prom story and many others (including my version of Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and many many more original concepts.
The second step to my writing process is gathering images that I find, most of the time randomly... that will be the source for my scenes as well as characters. This is a big one since I see things in my head so vividly...
These are just the newest inspirations for the story I am working on. If I Showed you everything... you wouldn't need to read my story. I am intertwining my new concepts of Rapunzel into my Snow Queen story. That is not to say that the other juvenile story I have written for Rapunzel (here's a hint: it has to do with imaginary friends...) will not still happen, eventually.
I hope that you enjoyed the insights into my process and hope that i have peeked your interest in what I am working on right now.
