I guess the real question is why do we all love fairytales so much? And where did it all originate? Did every country come up with their own, and if they did why do so many of the tales seem to be similar all around the world.
in my mind fairytales often explain something, or give hope to those who have nothing left in their lives that would lend itself to having hope. As if, no matter how bad life gets, their was always this one girl who had it worse and was rescued by an amazing prince charming. In a world whose economy seems to only shine down on the few, do we hold on tighter to fairytales more than ever before? It is completely understandable if that is the case.
In all honesty, this is one of the main reasons I choose to write fantasy and fairytale, because life has given me the short straw more times then I would like to count. I believe that we need hope, now more than ever, myself included. Unfortunately I am also a realist and can not completely give myself into the concept of providing richly beautiful and poetic niceties. I think fairytales, and hope needs to be grounded in truth, so that our hope does not destroy us, as greed and the American Dream (false hope) has done.
Our own desires can deceive us. As can hope of something that is too far out of reach; but no matter how much hope fairytales provide, they are still needed, to get us through those insanely hard times.
